I used to think light equip load was the secret to dodging in Drangleic. Then Fume Knight introduced my face to his ultra greatsword, and I learned the truth: Agility (AGL) is the stat that actually keeps my roll safe. In Scholar of the First Sin v2.02, and still in 2026, AGL governs roll and backstep invincibility frames, plus item-use speed. You do not level AGL directly. Adaptability (ADP) supplies most of it, while Attunement (ATN) contributes roughly one-third as efficiently. So if you are still fat-rolling in your head while wearing rags, welcome to the club. Grab a seat. We have Estus, and it is probably too slow.
Agility Is the Real Dodge Stat, Not Your Fashion Load
AGL is the hidden utility stat that decides whether your dodge looks like a graceful duelist or a hollow tripping over a rock. For melee builds, ADP is the efficient route because it buys AGL without paying for unused spell slots. Mages and clerics should first inspect their ATN, since it also grants slots, casts, and spell uses. High ATN may already cover part of a 99 or 105 AGL target. A caster who reaches 99 AGL through ATN should not automatically spend another 10 ADP just to follow a generic melee template. I learned this after wasting levels like a hollow with a credit card.
The Only Iframe Breakpoints I Actually Buy
Treat AGL like a boss weapon: breakpoints matter. At the low baseline of 85 AGL, rolls have 5 iframes at the 30fps reference. At 86 AGL, that jumps to 8, which is an unusually strong early improvement. The practical targets I actually care about are:
| AGL | Roll iframes | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| 92 | 10 | Early-game comfort |
| 96 | 11 | Solid midgame defense |
| 99 | 12 | Efficient sweet spot |
| 105 | 13 | Endgame and PvP standard |
| 111+ | 14+ | Luxury investment |
Choose 92 AGL when your next level costs more than your dignity and you need a safer roll for early bosses such as the Last Giant or Dragonrider. Push to 99 AGL when your build can afford it, since 12 iframes approach the familiar Dark Souls fast-roll baseline. For DLC bosses such as Fume Knight and Sir Alonne, or for sustained PvP pressure, 105 AGL is the community gold standard because 13 iframes match the familiar Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 baseline. I still remember the first time I hit 105 and suddenly felt like I had been playing with my eyes closed before.
Estus Speed, Backsteps, and the 100 AGL Cap
Remember that item speed has a separate ceiling: Estus, Lifegems, and similar uses improve only through 100 AGL. At 100, the animation reaches its maximum speed. Additional AGL cannot make healing faster. From 101 onward, every benefit is strictly about roll and backstep safety, so do not buy ADP for a faster Estus after crossing that cap. I have seen too many players dump points past 100 and then wonder why their chug still feels like a tea ceremony.
Backsteps can matter for spacing-focused PvP players, although they provide fewer iframes than rolls. 99 AGL gives 7 backstep iframes, while 103 gives 8 and 108 gives 9. In practice, use 92 for early comfort, 99 for an efficient near-max-healing target, and 105 for reliable endgame dodges. Only chase 111-116 when your SL and build have surplus points. Otherwise, you are just buying luxury iframes while your damage stat cries in the corner.
